Read more...The DCSF defines Study Support as learning activity outside normal lessons which young people take part in voluntarily. Study Support is accordingly, an inclusive term, embracing many activities – with many names and guises. Its purpose is to improve young people’s motivation, build their self esteem and help them become more effective learners. Above all it aims to raise achievement. Study Support can take place • Before school, break-times, lunchtime, after school • In the evenings, weekends, school holidays • Sessions within a re-organised timetable • At one-off events such as local and national performances and celebrations Examples of Study Support are • Sporting and physical activity • Outdoor, adventurous and environmental activities • Programmes which extend the curriculum • Creative and performing arts of all types • Craft and technology, including ICT • Homework clubs and open access to libraries and learning resource centres • Booster and revision sessions linked to subjects of the curriculum and cross curricular themes • Hobby activities and games clubs • Community service and volunteering • Peer education and mentoring • Theme-based summer schools • Breakfast Clubs • Lunch time clubs Extended Services StrategyNorthumberland Children’s Services Directorate view extended schools as ‘hubs’ for the delivery of integrated children’s services.
