It offers a flexible framework for accrediting young people’s creative development and can be delivered in many different settings, and within varying timescales. Find out more at www.artsaward.org.uk/inmysetting

Applying to Medicine - The Myth Buster

Dear colleague,

I am writing to you with details of a new widening participation initiative we are piloting at Newcastle University called “Applying to Medicine – The Myth Buster”.

The Myth Buster is a day-long session, intended for year 12 students, which aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the application process to medicine programmes as well as presenting a valuable insight as to what it is really like to be a medical student.  Applying to study medicine can be a daunting process for students and the session aims to make this time easier. The day will include an application master class, including details of the UKCAT test, an interactive communication and interview skills session, a look at medical ethics and the legal side of medicine, a question and answer panel with current students and a hands on session in the clinical skills lab.

The day will be held on Wednesday 4th July 2012, from 9.30 to 16.00 at Newcastle University Medical School. It is completely free to students who wish to attend. We would be greatly appreciative if you could promote this day to your year 12 students who are interested in applying to study medicine, or to those who are unsure and would like to find out more. I have attached an application form for those students who wish to attend and also a flyers to help promote it around your 6th form. The day is limited to 50 places so we would recommend that students who would like to attend, register their interest as soon as possible by completing the attached form and returning it to me at the address below.

If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Sarah
